Het was in april ook de 10e keer dat het Dutch Golf Museum Open Hickory toernooi gespeeld werd. Een internationaal pro-am golftoernooi dat wordt gespeeld op de golfbaan van Landgoed Bleijenbeek met authentieke 100 jaar oude hickory houten golfstokken, waarbij de deelnemers zich smaakvol kleden, passend bij de tijdgeest.

Zaterdag 18 april 2026 ging deze tiende editie van start met 20 hickory deelnemers(sters), zie ook de traditionele bordesfoto.

Golfpro Iain Forrester mocht, na een play-off met golfpro Erwin van Bergen, zijn naam wederom laten bijschrijven op de trofee bij de heren. Martine Rensen-Bijker mocht haar naam voor het eerst op de trofee bij de dames laten zetten.

Speciaal voor het jubileum was er op de vrijdagmiddag ervoor een Hickory Challenge op de

Pitch&Putt baan van Bleijenbeek georganiseerd, waarbij zo’n 20 geoefende en beginnende hickory spelers en speelsters het tegen elkaar opnamen onder een stralend zonnetje. Of je nu ervaren of beginner bent, het oh zo belangrijke pitch&putt spelletje blijft een hele uitdaging.

1ste Eyckenduyn Hickory Toernooi 18 mei 2023

Ondanks de late aankondiging van het uiteindelijke programma trok toch een gezellige groep hickory-vrienden en -vriendinnen naar dit toernooi op de knusse 9-holes baan Eyckenduyn. Naast onze eigen traditionele uitrusting was ook op de afslag de historie zichtbaar: een zandhoopje als tee! De dag werd van begin tot einde als super en voor herhaling vatbaar beoordeeld, ook door de organisatie van de golfbaan zelf. De Dutch Hickory Society staat hier niet onwelwillend tegenover 😉

Wedstrijdleider Erwin van Bergen had een grote verrassing voor alle deelnemers. Op basis van de uitslag mocht een door Erwin zelfgemaakte inschuifbare golfclub worden uitgezocht. Leg de club in de auto of in je reiskoffer en je bent altijd om een balletje te slaan 😊 De winnaars van de dag waren Brian Gee (bruto 69), Marjolijn Kempers (netto 65) en André Dubbeldam (netto 60).

1st Eyckenduyn Hickory Tournament 18 May 2023

A nice group of hickory friends to this tournament on the cosy 9-hole course Eyckenduyn, despite of the somewhat late announcement of the final programme. In addition to our own traditional equipment, history was also visible on the tee box: a pile of sand as a tee! The day was rated as super and worth repeating, also by the organization of the golf course itself. The Dutch Hickory Society is not unwilling to this 😉

Competition director Erwin van Bergen had a big surprise for all participants. Based on the results, a retractable golf club, made by Erwin himself, could be selected. Put the club in the car or in your travel case and you’re always ready to hit a ball 😊 The winners of the day were Brian Gee (gross 69), Marjolijn Kempers (net 65) and André Dubbeldam (net 60).

Trotz der späten Bekanntgabe des endgültigen Programms besuchte eine nette Gruppe von Hickory-Freunden dieses Turnier auf dem gemütlichen 9-Loch-Platz Eyckenduyn. Neben unserer eigenen traditionellen Ausrüstung war auch am Abschlag Geschichte sichtbar: ein Sandhaufen als Abschlag! Der Tag wurde von Anfang bis Ende als super und wiederholenswert bewertet, auch von der Organisation des Golfplatzes selbst. Die Dutch Hickory Society ist dazu nicht unwillig 😉

Wettbewerbsleiter Erwin van Bergen hatte für alle Teilnehmer eine große Überraschung parat. Basierend auf dem Ergebnis konnte ein einziehbarer Golfschläger von Erwin ausgewählt werden. Legen Sie den Schläger ins Auto oder in Ihre Reisetasche und schon sind Sie immer bereit einen Ball zu schlagen 😊 Die Tagessieger waren Brian Gee (69 brutto), Marjolijn Kempers (65 netto) und André Dubbeldam (60 netto).

Een enthousiaste groep van 15 hickory liefhebbers gingen van start op het 7^de toernooi georganiseerd door het Nederlands Golfmuseum. Het weer was ons gunstig gezind op een enkel buitje na.

Er werd goed gescoord met als uiteindelijke bruto winnaars Kerstin Huck en Brian Gee, en de netto winnaars Helga Scholz en Jan Willem van EE.

A group of 15 hickory enthusiasts started at the 7th tournament organized by the Dutch Golf Museum. The weather was favorable to us with just a little rain.

They scored well with the eventual gross winners: Kerstin Huck and Brian Gee, and the net winners Helga Scholz en Jan Willem van EE.

Twenty-seven hickory fans of 7 different nationalities, both pros and amateurs, dressed in hickory style, took on the challenge on The Mondial International Golf & Short Game Center.

After the 18-holes at the par 3 course, the in-between scores were discussed during a nice lunch. Refreshed and full of good courage, the company took up the glove again on the 9-holes Champions Course.

The day was given a very special finish by the sound of a bagpipe player at green of the final hole. But this day was not over yet!  The players were treated to an excellent dinner in the Hickory Room of the Clubhouse, where the award ceremony also took place.

Gustavo Barrios beat his colleague pros, with Brian Gee in 2nd and Iain Forrester in 3rd.

The first prize net score Ladies went to Barbara Kempers, with Hella Scholz in 2nd and Ria Frenken in 3 rd.

DGM Open Hickory Tournament 23 April 2022

The traditional gala dinner on the evening before the competition offered a stylish, varied and very tasty four-course meal to an international group of fourteen people and was a harbinger of things to come.

And indeed on Saturday 23 April, after the reception of all guests in a reunion-like atmosphere for many, the group photo could be taken in a radiant sun. The mood of the 26 historically dressed participants kept pace with the weather and at noon the pro Iain Forrester was the first to hit his 100-year-old brassie against the quickly departing ball. The second turn, I won’t name names, although Jan couldn’t help it, also showed an enthusiastically leaving ball, immediately followed by the head of the club, which had unintentionally separated itself from the wooden hickory shaft. Jan got a new brassie even before his tee on hole 2 and it lasted up to and including hole 18.

The combination course was played, namely the first nine holes of the Champions Course and the nine holes of the par 3/4 course with a par of 64, but that makes no difference to the number of strokes. About four hours later the flights trickled in.

Then the socializing on hole 19 started, also known as having a drink. This cherished obligation took place on an equally sun-drenched terrace, where tall tales once again prevailed against reality.
The award ceremony of the excellently organized tournament by Maria Vrijmoed and James and Angelica Fennel took place inside. Maria and Angelica handed out the prizes, but Maria had to miss out on one occasion. That was at the 1st prize net score among the ladies. She had won it herself (net score 72). So I was allowed to hand her that prize, which was nice, because I could give her a kiss. You have to be pretty careful with that these days. The 1st prize net score among the men was for Peter Scholz (net score 65).

The big winners of the challenge trophies from 1895 were Marja Kom in the women’s category with a gross score of 86 and Brian Gee in the men’s category with a gross score of 66.

Their names are immortalized again on silver rings around the shafts of the exchange trophies they won, which they had to return to Maria after the photo moment.
