PING A1-putter
Here you can see a stand with one of the first original PING 1A putters. A recent donation from Piet Rijkers during his visit to the Dutch Golf Museum. The three balls that are lying there invite you to take the putter in hand and putt in the direction of the library. You will immediately understand how the now large, renowned golf brand PING got its name.
In the 1960s, Karsten Solheim was disappointed with how difficult it was to putt with the existing putters. He was an engineer at General Electric and began designing his own putter in 1959 in his own garage in Redwood City, California. In the same year, he made the PING 1A putter, which he called ‘ping’ because of the sound the club made when you hit a ball.
