Anti shank iron

In the late 19th century, the Rules of Golf did not yet have any restrictions on golf clubs. Club makers therefore experimented extensively in their search for solutions to the difficulties associated with golf.

An example of this is the anti-shank iron, intended to hit the ball into the ground less quickly. One such iron with hickory shaft is in the Dutch Golf Museum, donated by the Czech Golf Museum Ypsilon during their visit to our museum. Many experiments have not been followed up. The anti shank iron did make it as a model.
