The Nunspeetse (Nunspeetse Golf and Country Club De Verwaeyde Sandbergen) has had its home course at Het Rijk van Nunspeet since 1987. It was in the same year that Paula van Ballegoijen-De Jong made a Golf Rules Lesson to help the (novice) members find their way around the holes. By the way, the members had to bring a tee mat to use with each shot because of the sandy surface of the golf course.

The 1 x 1.85 metre teaching mat was donated to the members of the Ladies’ Day in 2012 on the occasion of the silver jubilee of golf club De Verwaeyde Sandbergen and hung on the wall of the clubhouse for years. Until the teaching mat fell into oblivion after the renovation of the clubhouse of Het Rijk van Nunspeet.

The ladies of the ladies’ day thought that this unique teaching rug from 1987 deserved a better place. And we thought so too.

Six ladies from De Verwaeyde Sandbergen were present when the Golf Rules Lesson Rug was handed over to Jacques Schuiling, secretary of the Dutch Golf Museum. The Rules of Golf Lesson depicts a golf hole on a tapestry, with the different colors of teeing areas, the various obstacles throughout the course such as bunkers and out-of-bounds poles, up to and including temporary water on the green. On the basis of this teaching cloth, the rules expert explained how the golfer should deal with this in which situation. We are going to find a nice spot for it in the golf museum!

Finally, a surprise. On behalf of Mrs. Ineke van de Graaf, a hand-forged putter from Cann Taylor was also handed over to the secretary of the golf museum. This old specimen is a nice addition to our collection of putters!

Of course, a tour of the Dutch Golf Museum could not be missed. It was that the tee times for a round of golf at Landgoed Bleijenbeek were already fixed for the six ladies, otherwise they would have stayed much longer in the golf museum to look around.
