1905 Introduction points and lines on irons

Around 1880, the iron clubhead was introduced to golf. Around 1880, the iron clubhead was introduced to golf.

After 1905, manufacturers and golfers began to hit points (dots) in the faces because they produced more backspin.

From 1910 onwards, manufacturers made lines (grooves) in the iron blade to gain even more control over the ball.

Hand forged irons were made of steel and therefore prone to rust. It wasn’t until around 1920 that manufacturers began to use stainless steel.
