On 17 April 2023, Jos and Wim van Dijk’s daughter-in-law and granddaughters (Lies, Eline and Mariette) visited the golf museum. Jos van Dijk was associated with the Doornsche Golfclub, later Utrechtse Golfclub de Pan, for more than 50 years. First as a caddy, then as a golf professional. His son Wim also played at a high level as an amateur for many years.
The profession of golf professional was as unknown around 1910 as the game itself in the Netherlands. After the establishment of the first clubs, it was the Englishman John Duncan Dunn who introduced the first Dutch golfers to the secrets of the game. The first golf professionals in the Netherlands also came from England. From the ranks of the caddies, also an unknown phenomenon in the Netherlands, emerged the first Dutch golf professionals. First Jacob Oosterveer, soon followed by his brother Dirk Oosterveer, Jos and Wim van Dijk and Jan Blansjaar.
The van Dijk family was impressed by the golf museum, both by its reception and by the collection, in which many memories surfaced. Memories not only of Jos, but also of his son Wim, the husband of Lies, who was born in the clubhouse of the Pan. The Aleid Kemper-hoek present in the golf museum also gave a happy recognition of a prominent member of the Utrecht Golfclub de Pan.
Of course, the tour given by chairman John Ott ended with a nice piece of Limburg flan!
